General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there, Thanks for your question. I am Dr Asanghanwa Carlson. I will start by saying corticoids are drugs which are not supposed to be started and stopped at will as they have side effects. Prednisone was surely prescribed to you for a condition and and stopping it entails tapering off the doses progressively with respect to your condition. The high blood sugar and the weight are a side effect of the drug. I will advise you see your prescribing physician and let him advise you on how to go about stopping the drug as you do not have to stop it abruptly as your boy needs sometime to adapt to it and that could lead to many side effects some of which could be dangerous for you. Good luck!!!
